Honeywell has announced that it has been awarded a contract to provide its liquefaction technology and equipment for additional production trains at NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG facility in Texas, United States.
The agreement was signed with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor Bechtel Energy and covers Train 4 and Train 5 at the Brownsville site.
Under the contract, Honeywell will deliver its coil-wound heat exchangers along with its proprietary C3MR liquefaction process technology. These solutions are designed to optimize production, enhance operational reliability, and reduce overall operating costs. Honeywell’s technology is already in use across the project’s first three liquefaction trains.
The addition of the two new trains is expected to increase the total liquefaction capacity of the Rio Grande LNG facility by more than 66%, expanding from 18 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 30 MTPA.
All five trains are anticipated to be operational by mid-2031.
“As global energy demand continues to grow, liquefied natural gas will play a vital role in meeting that demand and supporting global energy security,” said Kristina Anderson, President of Honeywell’s Gas and LNG business. “Honeywell’s scalable and customizable technologies help producers optimize facility performance and efficiency, and we work closely with our customers to deliver solutions tailored to their specific goals.”
