Rockwell Automation’s Allen-Bradley Portfolio Supports Scalable Industrial Automation Solutions

Time:2026-04-29 Browse: 1

Rockwell Automation’s Allen-Bradley product portfolio continues to play a key role in industrial automation, offering a wide range of controllers, I/O modules, and motor control solutions designed for reliability and flexibility across industries.

At the core of many automation systems is the ControlLogix platform, a modular control architecture widely used in manufacturing and process industries. The 1756-L63/B controller is a representative module within this series, designed to handle complex control tasks with multi-tasking capabilities and support for multiple industrial communication protocols. Its flexibility allows engineers to configure and program systems tailored to specific production requirements.

Complementing the controller, I/O modules such as the 1756-MO2AE/A analog output module enable seamless interaction with field devices. By converting digital control signals into standard analog outputs (e.g., 0–10V or 4–20 mA), these modules are commonly used to control valve positioners, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other process equipment, ensuring high precision and stable operation.

In the field layer, motor management and drive systems are essential components of automation architectures. Rockwell Automation offers a broad range of products—including motor protection devices, soft starters, and VFDs—often identified by structured product codes such as the “22B-”, “22D-”, and “22C-” series.

These product codes typically reflect key specifications, including current ratings, voltage classes, and functional configurations. For example, “22B-” series products may represent a specific family of motor control solutions, with suffixes indicating variations in current capacity and feature sets. Variants marked with different suffixes (such as “N” or “C”) may denote differences in configuration, communication capabilities, or application scenarios.

The portfolio can be broadly categorized into several groups:

  • 22B series: covering a range of current ratings for general motor control applications

  • 22D series (PowerFlex 40P): offering enhanced performance and additional features

  • 22C series (PowerFlex 400): designed for higher power applications with expanded capacity

In practical deployments, ControlLogix controllers communicate with distributed motor control devices via industrial networks such as EtherNet/IP or DeviceNet. This enables centralized monitoring of motor status—including current, temperature, and fault conditions—while allowing remote control operations such as start/stop and speed adjustment.

System integration requires careful product selection based on application parameters such as motor rating, load characteristics, and control requirements. For instance, a motor rated at 5A may be paired with a corresponding drive or protection unit within the appropriate series, while analog output modules like the 1756-MO2AE/A can be used to provide speed reference signals to drives.

From a cost perspective, system components can vary significantly depending on specifications, ranging from controller modules to high-power drive systems. Accurate configuration and bill-of-materials planning are therefore critical for project budgeting.

When selecting equipment, engineers must consider process requirements, communication architecture, and lifecycle maintenance. Choosing models with integrated communication capabilities may increase upfront costs but can deliver long-term benefits through improved diagnostics and system visibility. Additionally, maintaining accurate records of product codes is essential for efficient spare parts management and minimizing downtime.

Overall, the Allen-Bradley ecosystem—from ControlLogix controllers to field-level motor control devices—provides a comprehensive foundation for building integrated automation systems. A clear understanding of product coding structures and system architecture is essential for effective design, deployment, and maintenance in modern industrial environments.
